Description
Aflatoxicosis caused by consumption of contaminated maize is a public health problem in several countries including Kenya. Many people living in risk countries could be chronically exposed to aflatoxin through their maize diet. The purpose of this study was to determine socio-economic and awareness factors associated with aflatoxin contamination of household maize. This was a comparative cross sectional study done in Kibwezi and Kilome sub-counties of Makueni County, Kenya. The results revealed significant associations of socio-economic characteristics and awareness with aflatoxin contamination of maize. These study findings imply that efforts to control aflatoxin in maize should consider socio-economics. factors.
