In response to the scabies outbreak in 2023, the DDPHU engaged with the First Nations community and a range of partners to deliver a comprehensive, culturally safe response to the outbreak. The environmental health team was involved in supporting the community in achieving a scabies “free” home. Houses were visited, where a request for assistance and consent to enter was received from the occupants. During these visits, health hardware was checked and education on the removal of scabies mites from the house environment and useful resources to manage scabies were provided to the occupants.
