Dr Abbey Potter began her career as a Veterinarian, before embarking on a PhD, with a One Health focus, utilising the commercial kangaroo harvesting industry as a means of undertaking surveillance for zoonotic diseases in wildlife. Abbey has since worked for the WA Department of Health's Environmental Health team for the past 10 years, where she has been involved in mitigating risk associated with mosquito-borne disease and developing the risk-based approach to COVID-safe events in WA. In her current role as Medical Entomologist (Japanese encephalitis virus), Abbey is coordinating the Environmental Health Directorate's response to the emerging risk posed by JEV.
