South East Queensland is at constant risk of invasion by ‘Zika mozzies’ from intrastate and international pathways. Covert invasion risks cryptic outbreaks of MBD diseases in our large cities. Since 2017 we have used citizen scientists to deliver multiple rounds of Zika Mozzie Seeker using DIY ovitraps. ZMSs success relies on innovative ICT infrastructure and mail out of an ‘egg collection kit’ to actively recruited registrants. Participant are notified of their result by SMS and results are shared on a regional heat-map on the ZMS website. This is a critical program as Brisbane counts down to the Olympics in 2032.
