Description
Melioidosis is a tropical disease which is endemic in North Queensland, the Northern Territory and in Southeast Asia. In 2021-22 four cases were diagnosed with Melioidosis in a small area of Southeast Queensland. These cases were investigated by Metro South Public Health Unit in Brisbane. During the investigation the causative agent, Burkholderia pseudomallei was detected in a soil sample. The presentation will hypothesise why these cases are occurring in Southeast Queensland and focus on weather impacts, commercial and residential developments, and the possible impact from global warming.
